Introduction: „Studying in the USA may sound like a dream to many people. Personally, I enjoy every second of this incredible opportunity and am extremely grateful that I get to live this dream. The personal development and educational advancement are just one of the benefits I get to enjoy. Through Scholarbook’s super expertise, I was able to get professional advice on choosing the right place to study. In this blog post, I will share my experiences as a student athlete at Midwestern State University, including why I chose this university, the cultural differences I have noticed between Central Europe and Texas, my current challenges, and the opportunities I see for my future.“
I. Why Midwestern State University is the best option for me
- Academic program (100% recognized in Luxembourg) and very sports/training opportunities & facilities
- Quality of university and professors
- Fit with Texas culture and cycling coach’s experience
II. Big differences I have noticed between Central Europe and Texas
- Culture shock and adjustment period. Everything is a „little“ bit bigger and faster!
- Support from coach, professors, and friends
- Without a car you are very helpless (no trains and buses). Americans love their cars!
III. Big challenges I am facing
- Financial burden of being a competitive athlete
- Limited funds for non-college races
- For a young student without a big income this is a big challenge and I think I won’t be able to start this weekend due to lack of budget. :(Unfortunately, cycling is not a sport of talent here, but rather a sport with very high costs. IV. Opportunities for my future
- High level of academic and sporting competition
- Broader horizons and world view
- Seeking new support opportunities (jobs, green card,…)
- Very good academic degree and possibility to enter a doctor program
Conclusion: „Studying in the USA as a student athlete has been an incredible experience so far for me, but it hasn’t been without its challenges. Midwestern State University has been the perfect fit for me in terms of academics and sports, and I have gained a broader perspective on the world thanks to the cultural differences I have experienced. However, the financial burden of being a competitive athlete is a significant challenge, and I am actively seeking new support opportunities. Despite the challenges, I am excited about the opportunities for my future, and I am grateful for the experience and personal growth that studying in the USA has afforded me.“
Best regards from the states
